PORTALES, NM – A woman is facing drunk driving charges following a collision on Highway 206 in Portales last night that left one person dead and another hospitalized, according to information from KFDA News.
The crash happened on W 18th Street near South Avenue D (NM-206) at around 11:17 p.m., when a driver, identified as 24-year-old Portales woman Bionca Martinez, reportedly ran a stop sign. Her vehicle then crashed into a car being driven by 35-year-old Laura Fernandez, also of Portales.
Fernandez died at the scene.
Martinez was taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries. She was later brought into police custody on suspicion of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence.
