MCKINLEY COUNTY, NM – According to KRQE News, two people were killed in a crash that took place on I-40 in McKinley County on Saturday.
The crash was reported around 9:00 p.m. near the Arizona / New Mexico border. Authorities say a driver of a semi-truck was heading west on I-40 traveling at very high speeds. The driver exited the interstate while speeding and struck a GMC Seirra from behind. The GMC then crashed into a Volvo tractor-trailer on impact.
The driver of the semi-truck and the driver of the GMC were both killed in the collisions and were found dead at the scene. A passenger in the semi-truck sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Volvo tractor-trailer was uninjured.
Police say seatbelts were not being correctly worn by one or more people involved in the accident. No other details have been released at this time.
