Man, child killed after colliding with Rail Runner train in Sandoval County

SANDOVAL COUNTY, NM – A Rail Runner train and a car collision claimed the lives of a six-year-old child and a man Monday.

KOAT said the crash happened on a private road close to State Road 313. A Jeep Cherokee SUV was crossing a private railroad crossing when it was struck by the train.

The train passengers were not reported to be injured.

Police identified the Jeep Cherokee SUV driver as Derrick Tenorio, who had a six-year-old child with him. Both succumbed to their injuries and died.

It is unclear if impairment was a factor in Monday’s crash.
