Narrative
THOREAU, NM – A 25-year-old woman died, and four children went to the hospital after a single-vehicle crash along the interstate in south-central McKinley County.
The incident occurred around 7 a.m. on the westbound side of I-40 near the town of Thoreau, which is west of Albuquerque.
The investigation thus far indicates that a westbound vehicle left the interstate and overturned, throwing the unrestrained driver from the vehicle. The driver, identified as Ruth Cisneros, died at the scene.
Medics transported four passengers, all children, to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
